ARP’s premium grade header bolt kit is an excellent choice to facilitate the installation of your vehicle’s exhaust headers. To maintain a reputation for “zero defects”, ensure optimum quality control, and produce fasteners of exceptionally high quality, ARP controls all aspects of the manufacturing process, performing all operations in-house where they can be closely monitored. ARP takes extraordinary steps to produce the very finest products of their kind on the market today. Manufactured from heat treated 8740 chrome moly steel with a black oxide finish, these bolts are rated at 170,000 psi tensile strength, which is substantially stronger than Grade 8 hardware. The 3/8″ diameter bolts are traditional hex style, have a 1.000 under head length, and the 16 piece set includes premium-quality washers.

We needed header bolts to solve three common issues: Aluminum heads, thick flanges & gaskets, and big tubes interfering with wrench access. The 5/16 heads are a substantial improvement to the wrench clearance issue. Wiha Tool sells a 5/16 x 1/4 box-end that, with one added bend in the handle, will hit all 16 bolts. The added length of the bolt puts enough threads into the aluminum to avert pulled threads, even with thick gaskets and 5/16″ flanges. The only remaining issue is that the added length means it’s sometimes tricky to get the bolt into the hole without the head hitting the tube on the way. We solved that by carefully grinding down the threads up high on the bolts to let them lean out further as they go in – seems like they could be engineered and made that way. Still, compared to any other header bolt we’ve ever used, these are the best.

I bought these for very tight locations where a 3/8 fit but it was still tight access for the wrench. The bolts seem to be good quality and did provide the additional wrench space I was hoping for.Cons:(1) – Watch out for the length of these. They are longer than the header bolts they replaced which concerned me because I was afraid they would bottom out before tightening. They did tighten up OK for me. If you have thin header flanges they might be too long.(2) – Because the bolts are so long, if you tighten the header up with one bolt, the remaining bolts might not fit past the headers into the holes. Insert all of the bolts you plan to use just a few threads in while the header hangs away from the motor. Then once they are all started you can push the header in until it binds on a bolt, then tighten those bolts. Repeat the process until the header reaches the heads.

The pictures do not do the bolt justice, these are perfect for any tight spot, I only wish that I had found them a little sooner

I used them in tight areas on my headers they work perfectly

These ARP bolts are key. The extra quarter inch ensures a solid installation, especially when previous bolts bareley threaded in 1.5 to 2 turns. They look clean.

My header gaskets (both) were blown out and sounded bad under the hood (under throttle). These worked fine on my 1990 Mustang 5.0 with BBK log tube headers (they are a bit longer than orig header bolts) for the thicker aluminum header gaskets. The locking washers will prevent need to re-tighten (mechanic said). Back to that nice 5.0 sound again (from the tail pipes only) 🙂

The header bolts worked perfectly. they went in and tightened up as they should. The bolt heads were the perfect size to get a socket on without hitting the header tube.

Fit perfectly with ease. Will buy again.
