View larger. How High-Flow Technology Works
How does the K&N 57-3057 increase horsepower? By eliminating airflow obstruction in your engine. Restriction of air flow between an air filter and an engine robs even the most powerful engine of horsepower. K&N air intake kits virtually eliminate air path restriction by replacing the standard air filter and the entire air path to the engine. The aerodynamically engineered conduit that makes up the 57-3057 drives a massive amount of air into an engine, which translates into power. This conduit begins with an oversized conical high-flow air filter. This larger filter can fit into the engine compartment using factory holes and mounting points because the 57-3057 replaces your stock intake tube, and air box. This provides more airflow at lower restriction than a standard filter, limited by the size of the factory air box. The oversize air filter also captures and holds more dirt, increasing the service life before a cleaning is required (up to 100,000 miles). The filter is also isolated from high engine temperature by a heat shield designed to lower the temperature of the air entering the engine, which increases horsepower.
The filter attaches to a rotationally molded tube made from nonmetallic interlaced high density polyethylene (HDPE). This allows for precision shaping of the tube to reduce turbulence and accelerate airflow into the engine. This is why some K&N tubes have unique shapes or indentations that are specifically engineered for each engine configuration. Finally, the tube is connected to the engine with adapters made from high strength materials such as silicon and reinforced nylon and ensures long life. Put all this together and you have the best high-flow intake system available today.
Street Legal
Many K&N intake systems are street legal in all 50 states and include a California Air Resource Board (CARB) Executive Order (EO) number that ensures the kit has been tested to comply with emissions standards. EO numbers apply to the kit as well as the year, make and model it is being installed on. Systems with no EO number are street legal in most states but may not be used on emissions controlled vehicles in the state of California or other states adopting California emission standards. Consult K&N’s website to search by part to see which cold air intakes are CARB exempt for which vehicles.

Installation was straight forward and quick. The only drawback is they didn’t spend quite enough time testing this design because they shorted the air box a little to much. The top cover is held in place by three very small allen-head screws which wouldn’t be so bad except on is nearly impossible to get to w/o a cut/shorten allen-wrench do to placement next to the coolant reservoir. That alone could be overlooked but add to it that you can NOT (at least for my application, 2006 GMC 2500HD) remove the filter w/o disconnecting the intake tube from the filter housing because the filter is just (less than a 1/4) to large to remove with the tube attached… this may seem like minor inconveniences but are things that, especially for the price of this unit) could have easily been adjusted with little effort. Instead you are left with a design that will inevitably lead to lost screws or bolts and a deterrence for proper filter maintenance. That being said the air filter itself is a noticeably more efficient design than the spiral paper stock filter. Don’t expect any real power or fuel efficiency (least not according to my ODB hookup) but keeping the engine breathing easier will help in the long run. Also I recommend you pick up the filter wrap if using it on a farm or as a working truck. The wrap can be removed and replaced without removing the intake tube so it will extend time between cleanings.

Just wanted to let everyone know that there is a difference between the 2005 and the 2005.5 when GM switched from the LLY to the LBZ. I “made sure it fit” with the thing at the top of the page where you input all your year/make/model info and it said this one would fit my 2005 LLY, but it doesn’t. You need the 57-3047 for that.Nick2005 LLY 2500HDK&N FIPK IntakeTurbo-Back ExhaustComing Soon: PPE Xcelerator Hot Programmer

This part number will fit the LBZ engine ONLY. Watch out for 1/2 model years and know what engine you have! That said…it wasn’t too hard to install. The only problem came at the end when bolting on the cover on top of the filter. The screws are allen head but one of them is IMPOSSIBLE to bolt in without removing the coolant reservoir(which is a pain in itself) so decided to leave that screw off. Doesnt rattle because of it. Didnt notice much of an increase in power, mostly due to the fact that the truck already puts out around 450-500bhp but on a bone stock truck im sure you’d feel it. Oh and btw…the K&N filter replacment is CHEAPER than a stock Wix filter at NAPA!

I thought I might pick up a mile or two per gallon, but that hasnt happened.. Overall I am very satisfied and well please with the performance of the unit..It did boost the power as was advertized tho.

Very hard to install. The sheet metal parts do not line up and the screws that hold the sheet metal together are in a place hard to get to because of the truck body. Originally ship the wrong system, i.e., they shipped the one for the early model 2007 chevy instead of the late model 2007 chevy. Hard to maintain the filter do to the poor sheet metal design.

Great intake! I know K&N makes great products but I didn’t expect to feel a lot of difference from the added hp but I did! It was missing 1 screw but I was able to replace it. And the price I got it for was untouchable!

The fit and finish are perfect. No issues here.

It was very difficult to get the filter on but where there is a will, there is a way. Take faith!
