I gave only 4 stars simply because I also did not receive the parts pictured on Amazon; but did receive parts more like the factory ones that had failed. Even though the ones I received looked like they’d be more difficult to install, I still replaced both cylinders in 20 mins by myself using a 6 foot ladder, and a ratchet screwdriver with the T35 bit (maybe it was a T40). I could have used a 6/4″ ladder. 😉 I had read reviews about stripping of the new screws during install, and yes, this was the most difficult part; mainly on the upper end which I did last on each side. Removed lower passenger side bolt first, let lift gate rest on ladder, removed upper left side bolt and removed cylinder. Removed rubber gasket and white ring from factory bolts and installed onto my new cylinder bolts. Installed new lower cylinder bolt first and then the tricky part of lifting the gate fully with hand or head and getting the upper bolt started properly (no stripping)…it finally went smoothly. I did spray some WD-40 on both the threads in hatch and onto bolt to assist. Repeated on drivers side. Wasn’t bad; 20 mins. They work really great at time = 0. I have to PULL down fairly hard to get it to close. I faintly remember it being that way a long time ago. Just match the picture to what you’re actually going to send me, Amazon. You cost this vendor a star, not them! The bolts could be better, but they’re in, and they work just fine.

I admit that I am not very good with repairs of any kind and have suffered for over 2 years with my liftgate either not working at all or falling on me as I load groceries etc. I was afraid to get a quote at the auto shop and simply used an umbrella to prop up the liftgate. A guy at work offered to find replacements at a junkyard for me and he did! After suffering in the heat holding the gate up for him to install them, it didn’t work. He went online and found these and they worked like a charm. I was struggling for so long balancing the gate and timing my loading and offloading. The freedom I now feel having these work so well for a fraction of what a repair shop would charge is amazing! Thanks for offering such a great product at a very affordable price!

I installed the struts on my 99 Jeep Grand Cherokee almost a year ago. They worked fine for 11 months, installed to hold up the rear liftgate. What happened was I took it skiing, and there was a very cold night. The temperature was below zero, and I was at 9,500 feet. I opened up the liftgate, one of the struts began to hiss and pop and the liftgate began to fall. I think the combination of the very cold air, and the elevation caused the problem.I contacted the company and they replaced the struts for free. I installed it in about five minutes, and my liftgate is back to normalI am going to go skiing again in about three weeks. If I do not come back and re-post, everything is going great.

Very hard to line up as one of the end should be reverse thread. Had to not thread one of them all the way along with cross threading due to forced angle. After the installation struggle they work very well. I just hope I never have to remove one of them due to cross thread. Also the wrong instructions were included.

The instructions that come with the strut say to:Support the hoodRemove retaining clips with screwdriverPull strut from ball jointInstall new strut on ball jointTHIS WILL NOT WORKThese struts require that the strut be unscrewedFor this a T40 Torx is needed, probably a socket and ratchet as the bolts are tight.Remember to support the hood

thank you! I’m not a car expert nor a mechanic by any means, and these are very easy to install on my son’s car. my son and I had a long lasting memory and learn together how to install them on his Jeep Cherokee laredo. easy to do, perfectly fit, and made for a fun time with my teenage son!

They went in very easily.
