I’ve purchased Spectre products before and generally have been pleased with those purchases; both the way they fit and the quality of the parts. This heat shield is described as fitting “Chevrolet V-6 and V-8 engines with block mounted starters”. I bought this specifically for a Chevrolet 8.1 Vortec engine. The starter bolts directly to the block with two bolts, so one would think it would fit…but it doesn’t, and it’s not close.I believe this heat shield was designed for earlier engines whose starters bolted to the bellhousing, and not to the block itself. The quality of the part itself seemed fine, and I thought the price was reasonable. I gave it two stars because while the quality was fine, it doesn’t comply with the item’s description.

Pretty good heat shield, just difficult to install due to close quarters with the starter it’s shielding. Plus, when attaching the shield at the back, do not over tighten the screw as it will twist the metal tab on the shield. Otherwise, this shield works really well.

The piece itself is fine. The product title clearly states “stainless steel.” The box clearly states “aluminum.” In fairness, this isn’t a terrible thing as aluminum is probably a better heat shield material anyway, but be advised if you think you’re getting stainless.

Not sure what it fits, but I can tell you that it doesn’t fit a 5.3L Gen3 engine on an 07 Silverado 1500 classic. As others have noted, it’s also not stainless steel. They need to clean up this listing – fix the material and get specific about what it actually fits.

Fits the starter on my 350 and prevents the heat sinking that was plaguing my poor factory starter. I recommend removing the starter from the vehicle for installation. The shield fits tight to the starter and does not interfere with headers or anything else underneath the vehicle.

Not stainless…it’s aluminum. Got a 97 Chevy Silverado C2500, 5.7 vortec (V8), small block 350. Does not even come close to fitting. Removed starter to install. Will not work.

My Ford is a 1967 small block with a 1972 big block and long tube headers. This part does not list my application but I took the chance since I am using a more modern style starter from the mid 90s.To be clear, the small tabs used for mounting do NOT get sandwiched between starter and block. Instead you have to remove two very small botls that hold the solenoid to the starter and use them to hold the shield in place.Works like a charm!

I have an aftermarket starter. this only fits AC Delco I had to cut and modify it to use it.
